About Amaltas Fali (Cassia Pod) Powder
Amaltas Fali is the long, cylindrical fruit pod of Cassia fistula, the ornamental Golden Shower Tree whose cascading yellow blossoms are a familiar sight across the Indian summer. In Ayurveda the tree is celebrated as Aragvadha, literally "the disease-killer," and among its parts the fruit pod is the most prized. Inside each dark, woody pod sits a soft, sweet, sticky pulp separated into chambers by thin partitions - and it is this pulp that classical texts single out for its gentle therapeutic action.
Charaka and Bhavaprakasha describe Aragvadha as a mridu virechaka - a mild, well-tolerated purgative. Unlike harsher laxatives, its sweet (madhura) taste, cooling (sheeta) potency, and soothing quality make it traditionally suitable even for delicate constitutions when prepared and dosed correctly. It works primarily by pacifying aggravated Pitta and easing downward Vata, helping to clear accumulated toxins (ama) and encourage a smooth, unhurried bowel movement.
Beyond the digestive tract, Aragvadha is a cornerstone of classical skin and blood-purifying formulas such as Aragvadhadi Kashaya, where it is traditionally used to support a clear complexion and cool the internal heat associated with Pitta imbalances. Its reputation spans constipation relief, seasonal detox, and skin wellness.
At Vaidya Village we source clean, unpolished, sun-dried pods and lab-check them for purity, so you receive the raw herb in its most authentic form - ready to soak into a bedtime decoction or blend into your seasonal cleanse ritual.

How to Use
Mix ¼-½ teaspoon (about 1-3 g) of the powder into a cup of warm water. Traditionally taken once daily, preferably at bedtime, to support gentle bowel movement and comfortable digestion; a little honey may be stirred in to improve taste. Start with the lower amount and adjust as needed. Being a naturally mild, laxative-type herb, it is best not to exceed the suggested quantity or use it continuously for long periods. Keep well out of reach of children, and avoid during pregnancy, breastfeeding, or ongoing digestive complaints unless advised otherwise. Please consult a qualified Ayurvedic physician or your healthcare provider before use, especially if you are taking other medication or have a medical condition.
Precautions & Safety
Because it acts as a purgative, avoid overuse - excessive doses can cause loose stools, abdominal cramping, dehydration, and loss of electrolytes. Not recommended during pregnancy without professional supervision, as bowel/uterine stimulation is a concern; also use caution during breastfeeding and in young children only under an expert's guidance. Avoid in cases of diarrhoea, dysentery, inflammatory bowel disease, intestinal obstruction, or unexplained acute abdominal pain. The pulp is naturally sweet, so diabetics should account for this. Do not use continuously for long periods, as chronic laxative use can lead to dependence and reduced bowel tone. Discontinue and seek advice if cramping, persistent diarrhoea, or discomfort occurs. Keep out of reach of children. When in doubt, consult an Ayurvedic physician or your doctor.
