About Amarvel (Amarbel) Powder
Amarvel - better known across North India as Amarbel or Akashbel - is one of Ayurveda's most striking herbs: a leafless, rootless parasitic climber whose wiry, golden-orange stems drape over host shrubs like tangled threads of gold. Botanically it is Cuscuta reflexa (family Convolvulaceae), and the whole plant is gathered, dried and used both internally and externally. Its Sanskrit names Amaravalli and Akashavalli ("the creeper of the sky") reflect the way it seems to grow without touching the earth.
In classical and folk Ayurveda, Amarvel carries a bitter, pungent and astringent taste (tikta-katu-kashaya rasa), a light and dry quality (laghu-ruksha guna), a warming potency (ushna virya) and a pungent post-digestive effect (katu vipaka). This profile makes it primarily Kapha and Vata pacifying, and it is classically valued as a deepana-pachana (metabolism-kindling) and yakrit-uttejaka (liver-stimulating) herb. Generations of vaidyas have reached for its decoction as a traditional support for the liver and for jaundice-type conditions, and as a gentle internal cleanser that helps the body clear ama (metabolic residue).
Beyond the liver, Amarvel enjoys a long reputation as a blood purifier and a topical remedy. Its paste and oil-infusion are a classic folk hair tonic - massaged into the scalp and bald patches to traditionally encourage hair growth and reduce dandruff - while externally it is applied to itchy skin, rashes, minor wounds and aching joints. It is also known as a mild, natural laxative and diuretic. In Unani practice its dried plant serves as the Indian substitute for Aftimoon.
At Vaidya Village we source Amarvel that is carefully harvested from safe, non-toxic host plants, then cleaned, dried and checked for purity - because with a parasitic herb, the honesty of the source is everything. The result is a clean, aromatic, cut-and-sifted whole plant ready for decoctions, powders and oil infusions.

Topical (scalp & skin) use: Blend 1-2 tsp of the powder with warm water or a suitable carrier oil into a smooth paste. Apply to the scalp or affected skin, leave for 20-30 minutes, then rinse. Do a small patch test first.
Traditionally used to support natural detoxification, healthy blood, and scalp/hair care. Not intended to diagnose, treat, or cure any disease. As Amarvel is a potent herb, please use it in moderation and consult a qualified Ayurvedic physician before use - especially if you are pregnant, nursing, taking medication, or managing any health condition.
Precautions & Safety
Amarvel is a parasitic plant that grows on a host - quality and sourcing are critical, because material harvested from poisonous hosts (such as Datura, Nerium/kaner, Calotropis/aak or thevetia) can carry toxic alkaloids. Only use plant collected from safe, edible/non-toxic hosts. Internal use should be short-term and physician-guided; large doses can act as a strong purgative and cause abdominal cramping or loose stools. Avoid during pregnancy and breastfeeding, and do not give to young children without professional supervision. Jaundice, hepatitis and other liver disorders require proper medical evaluation - use Amarvel only as a supportive adjunct, never as a replacement for medical treatment. Discontinue if you experience nausea, cramping or discomfort. This product is not intended to diagnose, treat, cure or prevent any disease. Keep out of reach of children and store away from moisture.
