About Moringa Seed Powder
Moringa Beej are the mature, dried seeds of Moringa oleifera - the celebrated "drumstick tree," known in classical Ayurveda as Shigru and across India as Sahjan or Munaga. Each rounded, pale seed is enclosed in a light, three-winged papery husk and carries a kernel that is both nutritionally dense and, in traditional pharmacology, notably potent. While Moringa leaf has earned fame as a modern superfood, the seed has its own distinct place: it is the source of the prized, long-lasting Ben (behen) oil and has been used for generations in wellness formulations and even as a folk water-clarifying agent.
In Ayurvedic terms, Shigru seed is Katu (pungent) and Tikta (bitter) in rasa, Ushna (hot) in virya, and Katu in vipaka, with Laghu (light) and Tikshna (sharp, penetrating) qualities. This makes it strongly Kapha-Vata pacifying and channel-clearing (srotoshodhana), while it can increase Pitta if taken in excess. Traditionally it has been valued to support comfortable joints, clear breathing in cold and damp seasons, healthy digestion and the body's own routes of elimination.
At Vaidya Village we supply clean, sortex-sorted whole seeds so you can prepare them your way - lightly roasted as a warming seasonal nibble, powdered in small measured doses, or crushed into decoctions within a guided herbal regimen. Because these seeds are warming and concentrated, they are meant to be used in modest, considered amounts rather than as a bulk food.
Whether you are drawn to Moringa Beej for its traditional joint and respiratory support, its historic role in settling turbid water, or as the raw material behind Ben oil for skin and hair, you receive genuine Moringa oleifera seed - farm-sourced, carefully cleaned, and honestly described.

How to Use
Moringa seed powder is potent, so begin with a small quantity. Mix about ¼ to ½ teaspoon (roughly 1-2 g) into a glass of warm water, warm milk, honey or a smoothie, ideally once a day after a meal. Start at the lower end and adjust gradually as it suits you. For external care, blend a little powder with rose water or plain water into a smooth paste and apply as a face or skin pack, then rinse off after it dries. Keep well within the suggested amount and do not exceed it. Traditionally used to support overall wellness; it is not a substitute for medical treatment. If you are pregnant, nursing, taking medication or managing a health condition, please consult a qualified Ayurvedic physician before use.
Precautions & Safety
Moringa seeds are potent and warming (Ushna); excess can aggravate Pitta and may cause nausea, heartburn or loose stools. Avoid during pregnancy - Shigru seed, root and bark are traditionally contraindicated in pregnancy due to reported uterine-stimulant activity; use in nursing only under professional advice. Those with high Pitta, acidity or ulcers should use only small amounts. Remove the fibrous winged husk before internal use; many prefer light roasting as raw seeds can be harsh. Keep doses small - more is not better with these concentrated seeds. If you take blood-pressure, thyroid or diabetes medication, consult your physician as Moringa may influence these. Seed-derived Ben oil is generally for external use unless certified food-grade. Store out of reach of children in bulk. The water-purification use is a traditional folk practice and is not a certified substitute for boiling or proper filtration.
