About Mehndi (Henna Leaf) Powder
Mahendi Patti, the leaf of Lawsonia inermis, is one of Ayurveda's most beloved cosmetic and cooling herbs, known in classical texts as Madayantika or Mendhika. The leaf naturally contains lawsone, a reddish-orange pigment that binds to the keratin of hair and skin, which is why henna has been used across India, the Middle East and North Africa for centuries as a natural dye and conditioner. Beyond its colour, the leaf carries a bitter-astringent (Tikta-Kashaya) taste and a distinctly cooling (Sheeta) potency, making it a traditional favourite for calming excess Pitta and Kapha.
In Ayurvedic and folk practice the leaf is far more than a hair dye. Applied as a paste to the palms, soles and scalp it is used to draw out excess body heat during summer; brewed into a decoction it is traditionally used as a cooling wash and gargle; and blended with other botanicals it supports a healthy, flake-free scalp and strong, glossy strands. Its natural astringency helps tone the skin, while its reputation as a mild antimicrobial has kept it in traditional wound and skin-care recipes for generations.
Our Mahendi Patti is carefully shade-and-sun cured to protect the natural dye and aroma, then sorted and offered as clean whole leaf and stone-ground powder. It is 100% pure leaf with no added PPD, ammonia, or synthetic "black henna" chemicals - the way henna was always meant to be used. For colour, it releases a warm reddish-brown that deepens over 24-48 hours and layers beautifully with indigo, amla and other herbs.
Note that traditional internal or medicinal use of henna leaf should always be guided by a qualified Ayurvedic physician. Our product is offered primarily for external cosmetic and traditional topical care.

How to Use
For external hair and skin use. Take about 2-3 tablespoons (roughly 15-25 g, scaled to hair length) of the powder and mix with warm water - or brewed tea/coffee for a richer tone - into a smooth, lump-free paste; a little lemon juice or curd may be added. Let the paste rest for 2-4 hours to release its color, then apply evenly to clean hair or scalp, leave on for 1-2 hours, and rinse thoroughly with plain water. For a cooling skin or body pack, blend ¼-½ tsp (about 1-3 g) into a paste and apply to the target area, then wash off once dry. Do a small patch test 24 hours before first use to check for sensitivity. Traditionally used to support scalp comfort and natural hair color; not for internal consumption. Consult a qualified physician or Ayurvedic practitioner before use if you are pregnant, nursing, or have a known allergy or skin condition.
Precautions & Safety
Henna is for external cosmetic use; do not consume it internally without professional guidance. People with G6PD deficiency - and infants and young children in particular - should avoid henna, as lawsone can trigger red-blood-cell breakdown (hemolysis). Never use so-called "black henna," which contains para-phenylenediamine (PPD) and can cause severe allergic reactions, blistering and scarring; genuine henna stains orange-to-brown, never jet black in an hour. Always perform a 48-hour skin patch test, as allergy, though uncommon, is possible. During pregnancy and breastfeeding, limit to occasional external use and avoid any internal use; consult your physician first. Discontinue if irritation, itching or rash occurs. Keep away from eyes.
