About Shikakai (Acacia Concinna) Powder
Shikakai, literally "fruit for hair", has been India's most trusted natural hair cleanser for centuries. Made by finely grinding the sun-dried pods of Acacia concinna, this powder produces a mild, low-lather wash that cleans the scalp and hair without stripping away their natural oils — the way our grandmothers cleansed their hair long before modern shampoos existed. At Vaidya Village, our Shikakai Powder is single-origin, stone-ground and completely free from chemicals, artificial colours and synthetic foaming agents.
Naturally rich in saponins, Shikakai is gentle enough for regular use, making it a beloved sulphate-free alternative to harsh shampoos. It has a mildly acidic pH that suits hair well, helping to keep the strands smooth, soft and easy to detangle. Traditionally, Shikakai is used to support a clean, refreshed scalp, add natural shine and lustre, and help maintain the strength of the hair from root to tip.
This fine, greenish-brown powder blends easily into a paste or hair rinse and pairs beautifully with Amla, Reetha (soapnut) and Bhringraj for a complete herbal hair-care routine. Whether you are moving away from chemical shampoos or simply want to care for your hair the traditional Ayurvedic way, Vaidya Village Shikakai Powder is a simple, honest and effective choice.

How to Use
This is a 100% natural external-use hair powder — it is not meant to be eaten. To use: take 2-3 tablespoons of Shikakai Powder (adjust for hair length), mix with a little warm water to form a smooth paste, or soak it overnight for a softer rinse. For a fuller wash, blend with equal parts Reetha (soapnut) and a spoon of Amla powder. Wet the hair, massage the paste gently into the scalp and lengths, then rinse thoroughly with plain water — it lathers less than regular shampoo, which is normal. Keep it away from the eyes as it can sting. Use 1-3 times a week for soft, clean, healthy-looking hair.
Precautions & Safety
For external use only; do not consume. Shikakai can sting if it enters the eyes, so rinse well with clean water if contact occurs. Those with very dry or sensitive scalp may prefer to pair it with Amla or a light oil. If you have a known allergy or a scalp condition, do a small patch test first and consult a physician if irritation occurs. Store in a cool, dry place away from moisture and direct sunlight. Keep out of reach of young children.
