About Mulethi (Licorice) Root Powder
Mulethi, revered in Ayurveda as Yashtimadhu (literally "the sweet stick"), is one of the most loved and gentle herbs in the classical apothecary. Our powder is milled from carefully sourced, sun-dried Glycyrrhiza glabra roots and nothing else — no fillers, no additives, no colour. The result is a fine, pale-golden powder with the characteristic warm, honey-sweet aroma that tells you the root is genuine and fresh.
In traditional practice, Mulethi is prized as a soothing and cooling (sheeta) herb that is naturally moistening for the throat and respiratory passage. It has long been reached for by singers, teachers and speakers to help maintain a clear, comfortable voice, and is a household favourite during the change of seasons when the throat feels dry or scratchy. Its gentle, demulcent nature also makes it a classic support for a calm, comfortable digestive tract.
Beyond throat and gut, Mulethi holds a treasured place in Ayurvedic skincare and hair care. Traditionally applied in ubtans and face packs, it is valued for helping maintain an even, naturally bright complexion. Because it is a whole-root powder, you can take it internally with warm water, milk or honey, or blend it into your own homemade skin and hair pastes — one honest, versatile herb for the whole family.
